Addiction: What To Look For In A Rehab

Addiction treatment varies from rehab to rehab and no two drug rehabilitation programmes are the same. Some programmes offer outpatient rehab only whilst others offer residential rehab, aftercare and partial hospitalisation even. Whether you have had a relapse or are just about to start your recovery finding the right programme to support you and your goals is incredibly important to lead to success.

Many people find the easiest option is to go with private rehab as it is easier to stick to your programme and means you’ll be in a safe environment when the withdrawal effects kick in. Some opt to receive treatment as an outpatient afterward as they become more comfortable with themselves and their recovery. The transition can be difficult for some but there is no rush in moving from residential to outpatient treatment.

When looking for a treatment centre that is right for you, you will need to consider what specialised treatment is available – if any.

When researching for a rehab that is suitable – of course firstly you will need to decide whether you want to opt for residential or outpatient care, but afterwards you may want to consider the following:

  •         Women’s Only/Male Only Programmes
  •         Mental Health Issues
  •         Substance Abuse
  •         Eating Disorders
  •         Addiction Treatment

Finding a rehab that also treats the above can be helpful if there is an underlying reason for your primary addiction.

Recovery usually lasts as long as it takes with most treatment programmes lasting for 30 days – depending if you need additional time. Programmes usually are separated into different levels to help with the transition from residential to outpatient care. Each rehab also has slightly different methods when it comes to addiction and mental health.

These include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Medical Nutrition therapy, Trauma Healing, on-on-one sessions and group therapy.

It is important to remember that not everyone responds to the same treatment and some work better than others for certain people. Your rehab center will create a plan that works best for you to make sure that no only you recover from your addiction but you maintain your recovery for years to come.
