The Day, Hour by Hour

10:00amBoard the Great Orme Tramway at Victoria Station and ride all the way to the summit, changing at Halfway. Keep the return half of your ticket in your pocket, because the plan is to walk back down.

10:30amExplore the summit and the free visitor centre. Look for the Kashmiri goats, descendants of a pair given to Queen Victoria, and for St Tudno’s Church on the way down, which has stood on the headland since the twelfth century.

11:15amWalk down through the country park to Happy Valley. It takes about an hour and is downhill nearly all the way.

12:30pmA café lunch in town.

2:00pmThe Home Front Experience on New Street recreates wartime civilian life with real affection: ration books, shop counters and an air raid shelter. It is £4.40 each. Allow an hour.

3:15pmThe free Mostyn Gallery, then a browse along Mostyn Street, with its Victorian canopies still keeping the rain off shoppers.

5:30pmTakeaway fish and chips on the promenade benches, facing the bay.

6:30pmIce cream, then walk across town to West Shore for the sunset over Conwy and Anglesey, with a coffee in hand. Find the White Rabbit statue while you are there.

Adjusting the Budget

Spend a Little More

  • Add the Great Orme Mines at Halfway for £27.50.
  • Swap takeaway for a sit-down fish supper.
  • Come down by cable car instead of walking.

Spend a Little Less

  • Bring a picnic for the summit and skip the café lunch.
  • Walk up as well as down and save the tram fare.
  • Swap the coffees for a flask.

Miss Mostyn Advises

  • The tram fare used here is the return price, so keep the return half if your knees object to the walk.
  • The Home Front Experience runs from late March to late October and is closed most Sundays outside school holidays.
  • Wear proper shoes for the walk down. The paths are good but steep in places.
  • Check sunset times before you set out; in high summer it is well after nine.

Questions Visitors Ask

Can you walk down the Great Orme?

Yes. Clear paths lead from the summit down through the country park to Happy Valley, taking about an hour at a gentle pace.

What is the Home Front Experience?

A small museum on New Street in Llandudno that recreates civilian life in Britain during the Second World War.

Where is the best place to watch the sunset in Llandudno?

West Shore, looking across the Conwy estuary towards Anglesey and the mountains.

Prices were checked in October 2026 and are for two adults. Fares change, the tramway and cable car run seasonally (roughly late March to the end of October) and the cable car stops in high wind, so check before you set out.
