Two hundred pounds is the sweet spot. Every proper attraction, a decent lunch, a pint on the pier and a fish supper eaten sitting down, like civilised people. If you only have one day in Llandudno, this is the one Miss Mostyn would choose.
The Day, Hour by Hour
9:30amArrive and find parking for the day; the car parks near the pier end of town are the most convenient for the tramway. Arriving by train? The station is a ten-minute walk from Church Walks.
10:00amBoard the Great Orme Tramway at Victoria Station. Change at Halfway and step off for the Great Orme Mines, where you walk through tunnels dug four thousand years ago. Allow an hour.
11:15amOn to the summit. Look for the Kashmiri goats on the slopes, and for the view across to Anglesey and Eryri.
12:00pmDown by cable car into Happy Valley, then a gentle stroll through the gardens back to the front.
12:45pmA proper lunch in one of the town cafés. Mostyn Street and the roads around it have plenty.
2:00pmThe Llandudno Museum on Gloddaeth Street, £5 each, for the Roman finds, the Bronze Age story and the town’s Victorian swagger. Allow an hour.
3:15pmThe free Mostyn Gallery on Vaughan Street, open Tuesday to Saturday. It opened in 1901 and still shows serious contemporary art in a handsome terracotta building.
4:30pmWalk the full length of the pier, the longest in Wales, and stop for a drink at the end, or try one of the town pubs.
6:30pmFish and chips in a sit-down restaurant. Ask for haddock if you want to be taken for a local.
8:00pmAn ice cream on the promenade as the lights come on along the bay.
What It Costs
| For two | Cost |
|---|---|
| Parking for the day (allowance) | £10.00 |
| Great Orme Tramway | £22.50 |
| Great Orme Mines | £27.50 |
| Cable car, down (allowance) | £22.00 |

| Sit-down fish and chips (allowance) | £35.00 |

That leaves £20.00 in hand. Ample for a souvenir from Mostyn Street or a second round.
If It Rains
Keep the mines, which are underground anyway, and the museum. Swap the cable car for the tram down, and add the Home Front Experience on New Street, which recreates wartime life with real affection for £4.40 each.
Adjusting the Budget
Spend a Little More
- Add afternoon tea at a promenade hotel instead of the museum.
- Upgrade the fish supper to a three-course dinner.
- Stay the night in a guest house and do Conwy the next morning.
Spend a Little Less
- Walk down from the summit instead of taking the cable car.
- Have takeaway fish and chips on the prom.
- Take a picnic up the Orme and skip the café lunch.
Miss Mostyn Advises
- July and August tram fares are a little higher; the change in the table still covers it.
- The Great Orme Mines are cool underground all year. Bring a layer.
- If the cable car is closed for wind, the tram runs in most weather.
- Mostyn Gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays; swap the order if you are visiting then.
Questions Visitors Ask
Is £200 enough for a day in Llandudno for two?
Yes, comfortably. It covers the Great Orme tramway, mines and cable car, the museum, lunch, drinks and a sit-down fish supper, with change to spare.
Which is better, the tram or the cable car?
Do both. Take the tram up, because it stops at the mines, and the cable car down for the view over Happy Valley.
How long do you need at the Great Orme Mines?
About an hour for the tunnels and the visitor centre, a little longer if you like to read every panel.
Prices were checked in October 2026 and are for two adults. Fares change, the tramway and cable car run seasonally (roughly late March to the end of October) and the cable car stops in high wind, so check before you set out.
