Ivy House has a rich history being the first stone built house and shop to be constructed in Colwyn Bay. Built next to a turnpike in 1865 by Thomas Hughes, a farmer from Llanrwst, he chose the name "Ivy House" as this was the English translation of his boyhood home "Plas Eiddew". In the early days the property was used as a dwelling, a shop and was even used to hold religious meetings in the large kitchen, until a more suitable site was found in 1871.
